Nihon M&A Center Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. is the Malaysian entity of the Group, based in Q Sentral, Kuala Lumpur. Our Malaysian team focuses mainly on Japan-Malaysia transactions, supporting the local business owners with cross-border M&A opportunities. We work closely with colleagues in Japan and across Southeast Asia to guide clients through each stage of the M&A process, ensuring smooth transitions and long-term success.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a motivated and client-oriented Buy-Side M&A Consultant with 2–3 years of working experience who is interested in working on acquisition mandates, both local and cross-border. This role is suitable for someone with a background in finance, banking, corporate strategy, or sales, who enjoys working with business owners and corporate clients and wants to build long-term expertise in M&A. You will work independently on assigned mandates while collaborating closely with senior consultants and regional counterparts as part of a deal team.
What you will do:
As a Buy-Side M&A Consultant, you will play an active role in both buyer origination and full-cycle transaction execution across local and cross-border deals. You will be involved in the entire M&A lifecycle, from sourcing acquisition opportunities to deal completion.
Your responsibilities include:
• Actively scout and develop potential buyer list through lead generation, market research, networking, referrals, and targeted outreach
• Initiate and conduct introductory meetings with potential buyers to understand their business model, growth strategy/objectives, and to educate the benefits of M&A, understand their acquisition strategy and investment criteria
• Build and manage a pipeline of prospective buyers and maintain strong ongoing relationships
• Act as the primary point of contact and advisor to buyers, providing insights on the opportunity, strategic fit, key risks, and transaction considerations
• Review and evaluate teasers and opportunities received from the sell-side team, and actively present suitable opportunities to potential buyer
• Work closely with the sell-side team to identify, screen, and approach suitable target companies aligned with buyer requirements
• Conduct market research, industry analysis, and preliminary financial assessments to support buyer evaluation and decision-making
• Collaborate with the sell-side team throughout valuation discussions, management meetings, due diligence coordination, negotiations, and transaction structuring
• Support the preparation and execution of transaction documentation, including non-disclosure agreements, memorandum of understanding, sale and purchase agreements, and other agreements
• Coordinate with internal teams, Japanese or regional counterparts, and external stakeholders throughout the deal process
• Support deal progression from origination through signing and completion, ensuring timely follow-ups and stakeholder coordination
• Travel as required to meet clients and acquisition targets, attend meetings, and support deal execution, depending on client location and transaction needs
What we expect of you (Must Have):
• Malaysian citizen
• At least 2-3 years of professional working experience
• Experience either in below field
① a financial institution / investment banking / professional services firm or
② sales-related role (Outbound cold calls, business developments etc.)
• Good written and spoken communication skills in both English and Mandarin, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients and internal stakeholders
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, comfortable engaging with business owners, partners, and C-suite executives
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and manage multiple workstreams concurrently
• Proactive, self-driven mindset with strong follow-through and accountability
• Well-organized with good attention to detail, especially when handling client information and transaction materials
• A positive attitude and willingness to work and grow in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
What we expect of you (Nice to Have):
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
• Posses basic financial knowledge (minimum understanding of accounting and finance)
Working arrangement:
• This is a full-time, on-site position based in Q Sentral, Kuala Lumpur
• Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
